David Chan is an entrepreneur grounded in the high tech industry. My key core strengths are: business development, marketing, alliances and joint ventures. As an avid proponent of small businesses, I believe that the roughly 28 million of them are keeping the U.S. economy powering along. These small businesses, from one person to 500 employee firms, do not bury themselves in political drama … they just get the job done.
Having worked in both global and start-up companies, there are best practices that can be implemented from both environments. These best practices can help small businesses to succeed in these challenging economic times:
- Believe that the “box” is for YOU to create. What’s happened in big corporate America dis-spells the notion that “big is best.”
- Challenge the status quo, but be prepared to move with speed, conviction and passion.
- Pick a direction and stick with it, fine-tuning as obstacles get in the way … and, yes, there will be many.
- Don’t give up! I firmly believe that it’s always “darkest before the dawn.”
- Technology is your friend, especially in today’s world. It’s downright cheap (if not free – ala Google), readily available, easy to use and in abundance. Shy away from it and someone else will eat your lunch.
